The fruits of life we consume

have many hidden roots.

History does not only exist

on the surface but beneath

buried In our memories.

History plants seeds

within the minds of people

forming their perceptions of reality.

Time captures moments

in history

 Like growth rings

hidden inside of tall trees.

Black History Month

may only contain twenty-eight days

but African Americans exist

to create history each day.

Our roots run deep like our genes.

 Like roots

we grow and expand

within cracks of concrete.

We are born as seeds

evolving in stages.

The time provided is given

to develop our own identities.

Like a seedly

  sprouting

out the cracks of concrete.

Refusing to be limited to its boundaries.

One day becomes a tall tree

that stands firmly.

The seedly evolving into a tree is proof

there is still hope for you and me.

Like the historical figures from the past

who overcame adversity.

 So keep ya head up

History is like a garden

Bearing a great number of fruitful memories.

Consume and digest but take many breaths in between.

Where greatness is born

 devastation and pain exist

 Where the wind blows

the seedly will follow.

Wherever it lands it

shall grow.
